Fans of the Polar Bears erupt at the sound of Sunday’s final horn - the idle Bears awarded the best-week bonus when the Ice Hogs stumbled just short of the finish line; the second place Bears - now $10.00 richer - skating into Week 6 as a legitimate threat to capture what would be their second FHL Cup championship.Polar Bears: 47.6
Wild Ducks: 23.2The fifth week of the season brought nothing but good news for the Polar Bears, the team moving from 4th place to 2nd place in the overall standings. The week also gifted GM Elya his second H2H win, the Bears - though in 4th place - sit just one game behind the Yankee division leaders. In position to seize control of the overall standing at the beginning of the week, the Wild Ducks hit a concerning dry patch - the second worst score of the week dumping the dallying Ducks into 3rd place overall; the Yankee division co-leader now 3-2 on the season.
Ice Hogs: 46.0
Central Red Army: 20.4
The Ice Hogs were an empty net goal from a best-week bonus, but Max Pacioretty - with 15 seconds remaining in the week - sent a shot wide-right, the Hogs finishing 1.6 points shy of the $10.00 prize. Despite the disappointment, the Hogs can boast of a resounding, confidence-building win - the team, now 3-2, seated atop the Yankee; tied with three others. The worst score of the week belongs to the Central Red Army - the second straight week the team has struggled. An early-season FHL Cup contender, the Army now find themselves seated in 7th place overall, their H2H record however still viable at 3-2.
Cherry Pickers: 42.3
Bluliners: 40.7
The Bluliners rallied with a Marc-Andre Fleury 30-save shutout, but the 6.0 Sunday points weren’t enough to catch the sitting Cherry Pickers; GM Hamilton’s squad, 4-1, slapped with their first loss of the season. The Cherry Pickers are now the only undefeated team in the league, the Pickers improving to 5-0 with the narrow victory. The overall standings also provide GM Recoskie with a warm-and-fuzzy feeling, the first place Pickers skating into Week 6 with a 16.5 point lead.
Rocky Rocks: 32.4
Boulder Flyers: 26.1Alexander Ovechkin arrived but he did not save the day, an unproductive Sunday slapping the Boulder Flyers with yet another loss, the torpedoed team now 0-5 for the season; a mark that leaves the flopping Flyers five huge games behind the Canuck division leader. Rocky Rocks improved to 3-2 with the victory, the Rocks very much in the chase for the Canuck division crown, trailing the Cherry Pickers by two games.
Misconducts: 41.1
SC Cobras: 39.3
Jake Guentzel was all the Misconducts had on Sunday; and Jake Guentzel was enough - his 5.0 point game (1g, 2a) placing GM Smalley’s squad in front of the stunned SC Cobras, the Misconducts improving to 3-2 with the comeback win. In (bitter) defeat, the SC Cobras saw their record fall to 1-4. Despite their substandard record, the Cobras are surprisingly still in the H2H hunt, trailing the best of the Yankee division by just two games.
Lumberjacks: 35.4
Baba Booey: 32.8
The Lumberjacks weren’t lumbering on Sunday as Sidney Crosby (1g, 1a) and Kris Letang (2a) erased a 3.4 point deficit, the Jacks rallying past Baba Booey to claim their second win of the year. With the stirring victory, the Lumberjacks improved to 2-3 - still three games behind the Canuck-leading Pickers. Baba Booey is now 1-4 on the year, the hugely disappointing loss dropping the Canuck division team four games back.
