| Emboldened by their second victory of the season, the Boulder Flyers have initiated “Operation: Get out of the Basement” - an eight week mission that would extract GM Morgan from the gritty confines of last place. The first day of the operation was an unqualified success, Tyler Toffoli (2g, 1a, 7pts) pacing a league-best 22.0 point effort, the fixated Flyers moving to within 19.9 points of the hallowed grounds of 11th place.Boulder Flyers: 22.0 Rocky Rocks: 12.0 “Absolutely great, another GM I can piss-off” were the words of GM Morgan upon learning his opponent was a playoff-bubble team that needs a win; the Boulder Flyers - with absolutely no hope of skating in the postseason - in full-blown spoiler-mode as they engage Rocky Rocks; the Rocks - with a record of 5-4 - sitting just outside of the playoff picture, trailing the second and final playoff spot by a H2H tiebreaker. Previous meeting: Rocky Rocks, 32.4; Boulder Flyers, 26.1Misconducts: 13.0 SC Cobras: 13.0 No team could use a win more than the SC Cobras - the Cobras, 3-6, needing to run the table if they hope to qualify for the four-team playoffs. That’s problem No. 1. Problem No. 2: The Cobras are pitted against the Misconducts - the best team in the league; a team that recorded 90 points in a single week. Despite the seemingly long odds, GM Murphy remains optimistic - citing (per a Google search) that 90-point-lightning never strikes the same place twice. Previous meeting: Misconducts, 41.1; SC Cobras, 39.3Wild Ducks: 8.7 Polar Bears: 8.0 The Polar Bears, 2-7, didn’t want to wear the “spoiler” hat at this point of the season, but that’s were the team finds itself at the start of Week 10 - GM Elya (with a spoiler hat sitting atop his head) traveling to Clarkston, MI to hopefully rattle the feathers of the Wild Ducks. The Ducks, 6-3, are a playoff-worthy team but their position is by no means secure. Two teams trail the Ducks by a single game. A loss to the Bears would substantially soften what is now semi-solid postseason ground. Previous meeting: Polar Bears, 47.6; Wild Ducks, 23.2Lumberjacks: 11.2 Baba Booey: 4.8Halfway through this “Week 10 (thru Monday)” write-up we arrive at the fork in the road - the point in which one team, and one team only will turn right, and head towards the playoffs; and one team will turn left - towards a barren trail that leads to postseason extinction. In short (without the fluff editorial) both the Lumberjacks and Baba Booey are 4-5; neither team can afford to lose. Both teams have to win. Only one team can win. In seven days, only one of these two teams will remain in the postseason conversation. Previous meeting: Lumberjacks, 35.4; Baba Booey, 32.8Cherry Pickers: 9.4 Bluliners: 11.3The team that wins its division will of course automatically qualify for the playoffs. For the Bluliners to win their division, they will have to defeat the Cherry Pickers. The Pickers, 7-2, have the best record in the league and currently sit atop the Canuck division. The Bluliners are 5-4. A victory would place the Bluliners just one game behind the Pickers. A loss would place them three games back - a huge swing that makes this a huge match, especially for the Bluliners. Previous meeting: Cherry Pickers, 42.3; Bluliners, 40.7Ice Hogs: 4.0 Central Red Army: 5.0 Both the Ice Hogs and Central Red Army own a record of 5-4. Both teams currently sit in 3rd place in the Yankee division. The team that finishes in 3rd place will not qualify for the playoffs. To qualify for the playoffs - to rise above 3rd place - a team has to win. That’s exactly where the Hogs and Army find themselves with a mere six weeks remaining in the getting-warm-quickly H2H regular season. Previous meeting: Ice Hogs, 46.0; Central Red Army, 20.4LINK: Standings |
