Actually, this does not belong in Immaterial Material since the post is eminently important. Yet, this is where it will reach the inquiring eyes of FHL GMs.
I say "Slapshot" the greatest hockey movie ever made. Don't see a need for a discussion.
Yes, I and a then buddy who flew in from California made "Slapshot" pilgrimage to Johnstown, PA in winter of 2001.
Saw bus station without Coca-Cola machine. Statue of the dog that saved some residents of Johnstown by warning them of the onrushing flood water in GREAT FLOOD of late May 1889 when swollen dam for South Fork Hunting & Fishing Club ruptured after stretch of major rain.
Saw ECHL game at the Cambria County War Memorial (the arena shown in "Slapshot") between Johnstown Chiefs (then affiliated with Calgary) and the Dayton Bombers. Cannot remember with which NHL team Dayton was affiliated.
East Coast Hockey League has been gone from Johnstown (and my 'hood Trenton, NJ) now for several seasons. Former Johnstown franchise still in ECHL, but now calls Greenville, South Carolina home.
This post spurred by article on ESPN. Celebration this coming Saturday in Johnstown, the 25th, for the 40th anniversary of "Slapshot." The Hanson Brothers will be there. Will I be there?
I really have to think about attending.
