WEEK 19 (thru Saturday) News courtesy of John Chester HbLNmCQ

Boulder Flyers: 14.7
Misconducts: 13.5

The defending FHL Cup champion has spent the entire season to date in the second division. But following a league-best point production in Day 1 of 7, Boulder Flyers are poised to crack the top six and are now a legitimate threat for a money position in the top three. The deficit is 24.7.

Wherever he is, late actor Sherman Hemsley, who played George Jefferson in the TV series “The Jeffersons,” is smiling. The theme song of “The Jeffersons” is titled “Movin’ On Up.” It begins, “Well we’re movin’ on up To the east side To a deluxe apartment in the sky.”

BF lead Misconducts by 1.2 in what in Day 1 resembled a game in the old American Basketball Association, BIG SCORING, a total of 28.2 points combined. Maybe the teams are using a red, white and blue puck?

Life is good for a GM in the FHL when the team rolls up 14.7 points from just two players. Nashville F Filip Forsberg delivered 13 on three goals and one assist in the Preds’ 5-0 shutout of visiting St. Louis. Forsberg has finally heated up after a pedestrian first half of the NHL season, which forced a FHL trade by Badger Bob to BF.

Buffalo G Robin Lehner had the other 1.7, 33 saves in a 2-0 loss at Los Angeles.

Goaltending was a big part of the point production for Misconducts, which got a combined 5.5 in wins from Marc-Andre Fleury of Pittsburgh and Joonas Korpisalo, who is deputizing for the injured (again) “Philly Bob,” Sergei Bobrovski, in Columbus.

Central Red Army: 13.6
Between the Pipes: 5.4

Barring the remote possibility of a tie, one team in the Belle Tire “Match of the Week” will remain HOT while the other will be cooled off.

Central Red Army exploded for the league’s second highest point total and leads Between the Pipes as Paul would write, a THICK 8.2. (As Detroit’s Robocop would say re: thick, “I like it.”)

CRA brings in a two-match winning streak after dropping its debut under the new management of GM Buker. Meanwhile, BTP is even hotter, riding a four-match winning streak in which it is averaging more than 52 points per period.

CRA got the bulk of its production from two of its big guns.

Calgary D T.J. Brodie delivered a team-high 6.0 points, recording three assists in the Flames’ 6-4 home loss to Ottawa. And Nashville G Pekka Rinne added 5.6 via a 28-save shutout of a tough opponent, the St. Louis Blues. The home win was big for Nashville, which is a battle to secure a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Ottawa G Craig Anderson led BTP with 3.4, making 34 saves in the 6-4 win at Calgary.

Despite the hoopla of the Stadium Series Game, Detroit at Colorado, BTP left 5.0 points on its bench – one goal and one assist from Colorado F Nathan McKinnon and two assists from Colorado F Gabriel Landeskog.

Wild Ducks: 4.0
SC Cobras: 2.0

One day after its HUGE late comeback against Badger Bob, Wild Ducks made big noise by executing a six-player trade full of big names, but was relatively quiet in the fantasy rink. Actually, both teams were quiet in the fantasy rink as this match has the fewest points scored in the period so far.

Montreal F Alex Galchenyuk of WD led all scorers with 2.0 on one goal. Pittsburgh F Phil Kessel and Montreal D P.K. Subban each added 1.0 on an assist.

SC Cobras got 1.0 each on an assist from Philadelphia F Wayne Simmonds and Los Angeles D Jake Muzzin.

WD entered the period with three new players acquired from Bluliners: Pittsburgh F Evgeni Malkin, Washington F Nicklas Backstrom and Subban. WD also received a pick in the trade, which it used to take Galchenyuk from the free agent pool.

WD sent Anaheim Fs Ryan Getzlef and Corey Perry along with Pittsburgh D Kris Letang to Bluliners.

Badger Bob 8.0
Bluliners 5.0

In Badger Bobville, the remnants of the mushroom cloud created by the Wild Ducks’ Friday comeback started to dissipate.

Despite the loss, BB still has a share of second place in the head-to-head derby, along with Ice Cats and BTP. All three are at 11-7. Thus, this is another must-win for BB. And the opponent is strong, Bluliners.

When the puck stopped sliding, BB emerged from Day 1 with a narrow lead.

Johnny G. from New Jersey was THE MAN for GM John C. from New Jersey. Calgary F Gaudreau led all scorers with 5.0 on two goals and one assist.

New acquisition Letang had a team-high 3.0 for Bluliners on a goal in the Penguins’ 4-1 home win over Winnipeg. The Penguins have now won the last 15 games against the Jets in Pittsburgh.

SV Slashers: 12.0
Ice Cats: 9.0

Day 1 here was almost as lively as the Boulder Flyers versus Misconducts scorefest.

This match is important for both teams. SVS’ best chance for $ a post-season payoff is to crack the top three overall. The current position is fifth. But the deficit to third is reasonable, 20.2.

Meanwhile, IC has a bit higher of a hill to climb to the top three. But, as mentioned earlier, IC is in a three-way tie for second in the head-to-head derby.

As was the case with Misconducts, SVS got wins from both goaltenders. The combined 60 saves from Henrik Lundqvist of the NY Rangers and Petr Mrazek of Detroit earned 6.0.

Arizona D Oliver Ekman Larsson on a goal led IC with 3.0. Ottawa F Mike Hoffman added 2.0 on two assists.

Polar Bears: 11.0
Ice Hogs: 3.0

Polar Bears in Day 1 came out intent on maintaining its comfortable leads in the season and head-to-head competitions.

Ottawa F Mark Stone of PB led all scorers with 5.0 on three assists.
